new train romanticists – Hobo Culture and Interrailer

"New train romanticists – Hobo Culture and Interrailer" is a lecture by Jens Besser (Dresden) at Neun Görlitz. The lecture is hold this wednesday - start 7p.m. - Here is the German press release:

Coming from the yard - straight out of Verschiebebahnhöfe

"Coming from the yard - straight out of Verschiebebahnhöfe" is the first show at Neun Görlitz. This exhibition features works of train painting artists from Italy, Canada and Germany. Photography by Bozhidar Asenov from Bulgaria completes the exhibition .

Most of the works show the direct connection to the medium "train". The print "catching out" by Other reminds on "hobo-phantasies" - catching a train and getting some booze.Aris screenprint has a typical size of a panel and reminds on his colorrange of his trainworks.
Original Stencils by Shlomo Faber of the year 2003 are relicts of a long time ago trainpainting era. Framed as objects the stencil could be original artworks only made for hanging in a Gallery.
Lithographies of Zasu remind of the fast death of life and the fast cleaning of panels on trains.
Jens Besser met train painters on several interrail tours. He started to take pictures of them and made handdrawn "portraits" of them. The final result is a drawing series of more then 15 works on international train tickets.

The show is arranged by Jens Besser.

Exhibition & Interview on Wertical with Moses&Taps

"WE: Teamwork seems to be the name of the game!
M&T™: Yes. But it is definitely a process until you are able to work within a team. We all painted for 15 years and even longer before we met each other. During this time, we went on the rampage. Today, it is no longer about spray painting your name confidently on a train for the thousandth or ten-thousandth time.  Now, we are interested in experiments. "

On 1st of February the "duo"- show of Moses&Taps at ruttkowski 68 opens - Just before published - an interview of german train painters moses & Taps on wertical.

Urban Script Continues 2012 - Conceptual Vandalism
Contemporary Art on Trains

Motorenhalle - Wachsbleichstraße 4a, 01067 Dresden
>Duration 30.11.12-12.1.2013, closed between Christmas and New Year’s Day
>Opening-times: tue-fr 4-8 p.m., sa 2-6 p.m.

During the 1980s, the US-phenomenon to spray subway wagons spilled over to Europe. Because there were only a few cities with a large-scale subway-system, the sprayers concentrated on the local public transport system. The suburban trains and the regional railway system seemed to be the perfect counterparts to imitate the American model. Along the way, the sprayers adopted the writing ideology “write your name on trains as often as you can“. Since the year 2000, new trends have been discovered. A group of sprayers got bored with the simple “name-dropping”. They developed new strategies to paint on trains. Until 2009 it was a small group of „train-artists“ that separated itself from the classical writing on trains. Since then, through the impact of the internet, more and more writers have seemed to realize art-creation on trains as a serious new strategy. Conceptual Vandalism integrates a group of train-painters who were working conceptually on trains in the non writing context even before 2009.

Artworks of the exhibition
The original artworks are always destroyed in Germany in short time. Photography is the most common medium for the documentation of the works. Therefore, mainly documentary photos will be shown in the exhibition. It will be complemented by sketches, objects, videos and internet-contents.

Artists
Only artists who do not appear in the public space take part in the exhibition. They act solely in the underground. Train-painting is still illegal and criminally prosecuted.

Curator: Jens Besser

Lecture - "Die Rezeption des Writing auf Außenseiten mobiler Träger in Europa "

Sorry only german infos:

"urban script continues 2012 - the scientific lessons" presents

Die Rezeption des Writing auf Außenseiten mobiler Träger in Europa
by H. Hinz
